Do The Mario!

Yesterday, I got online and found out that Captain Lou Albano passed away. He was 76. For those who read this and don't know, Lou Albano portrayed the live action Mario in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show (1989). He was also one of the first voices of Mario (maybe even the first). While I wasn't familiar with it, he did have a professional wrestling career as well.

I absolutely loved the Super Mario Bros. Super Show when I was growing up. I just didn't get to see it very often because they never seemed to have it on at a consistent time. Then again, I was just a kid and I never really payed attention to the time. But, I do remember watching the show on early Saturday mornings occasionally.

I remember watching it and being fascinated with the world of Super Mario. Every time the show was on, I immediately wanted it to hurry and end so I could go play some Super Mario World (because that's like one of the best games of all time). Also starring in the show was, Danny Wells, who portrayed Luigi. Wells and Albano worked well together to create some decent comedy for kids.

In recent years, they released every episode on two DVD volumes (I own both) Although, I swear there was an episode with a live action segment of the Mario Bros. getting trapped in a prison by Koopa (who was never seen but heard). I either skipped past that episode, it wasn't included or it just doesn't exist.

Regardless, the show holds up pretty well after all of these years. Many of the jokes are corny, but there are some that will surely make you laugh, if not then at least crack a smile. In many episodes, celebrities guest starred in the live action segments. Guests people such as Ernie Hudson and Sgt. Slaughter.

There are a few other Mario cartoons. One is sort of an odd anime that never saw release in the US. And, then there were two other shows that came out later, one based on Super Mario Bros. 3 and the other on Super Mario World. These shows were good, but not as awesome as the original. When Super Mario 64 released, we heard the new and official voice of Mario (Charles Martinet).

Charles Martinet has brought a lot to the character of Mario. And, I respect him for that. However, I always wanted Lou Albano and Danny Wells to come back to reprise their roles one last time as the Mario Bros. in a game or in a new cartoon. I think that would've been awesome to hear the corny references to pasta again.

Anyway, I just wanted to reflect upon this show and how awesome it was. I'll never forget how to "Do The Mario!"

Toy Story 1 & 2

Oh, I have a lot to say about these films but I don't seem to have the time to write about them. In short, it really took me back to 1995. These films are still great to this day. And, as corny as Randy Newman is... the opening theme song to Toy Story is still awesome.

I remember watching this every time I would put in the VHS tape of Batman. I kinda wish they had done something for one of the more recent films to reference this, just as a DVD extra or something. The Diet Coke ad is also awesome, but only because it's Batman related. Diet Coke = bleh.

So, my prize came in the mail today. Surprisingly, it wasn't the collector's edition (seen in the previous blog entry). It was just the regular version of the game with a mini-comic book. Not a big deal though. I'm just happy I actually won something. :P

Remember April O'Neil?

Remember April O'Neil? The famous news reporter from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? I've been watching some of the old toons lately and I can't get over how ridiculously big her boobs are. It's not really necessary at all. It's a show for the kids, right? Something for them to watch on Saturday mornings. Damn. She was the damsel in distress... in every episode. She was pretty much there so the Turtles would have someone to save. Anyway, she wasn't ever a favorite character of mine. I never did have any interest in acquiring the April O'Neil action figure that they released. I would rather have someone awesome like Rocksteady or Slash. I made this post because my best friend recently bought me the re-released action figure of April and I can't believe how fugly she is compared to the cartoon. Look at her!

Haha! And, why she has a Gun/Camcorder is beyond me. I guess she need something to defend herself with. Anyway, they did release another April that looked much better but I can't believe that they went with this one. Anyway, I hope to acquire the Turtles themselves and Krang. But, all I've seen around here is April. Maybe Amazon has them for a decent price.

Real Quick Update

When I first started going to MU, I met a girl that was a foreign exchange student from Taiwan. Her name is Lisa. We became friends and occasionally had lunch together. She is pretty entertaining to hang with and pretty cute, too. Eventually, she left MU to return to Taiwan. We stay in contact through MSN and Facebook though.

Recently, she instant messaged me and asked me to become friends with two other foreign exchange students from Taiwan. They just arrived weeks ago and are attending classes at MU for the next year. Ivy and Helen are their names. Both are really polite and cute (of course). I took them to the mall and a couple of other places before classes began.

Last night, I picked them up and brought them to my house and the Wii was busted out and we played Wii Sports: Resort, Mario Kart Wii, World of Goo and Super Mario Bros. I also showed them a few internet videos, including The Most Dangerous Animal Known to Man (which they thought was hilarious). Anyway, it was a pretty good time and I just wanted to write about it.

So, as of today... I only need ten more Arnold Schwarzenegger films to complete my collection. Now, I'm not looking to buy every movie he has been in. But, I want to get all the movies that he has had a major role in.

There are a couple of movies on the list I'm not so sure about. So, I will do some research (when I have time) and find out if they need to be in my collection or not. And, yes... I want Batman & Robin because Schwarzenegger was hilarious in that movie.
